The Ethiopian Millennium, which by some is described as following Gregorian Calendar is a mistake due to the fact that, when in 1582 the Pope Gregori III, declared the new calendar which followed his name, The Gregorian Calender, Ethiopia was recovering from a devastating war that lasted fifteen years from 1528 to 1543, between islam insurgents determined to destroy christianity from Ethiopia and impose Islam in the whole Ethiopia. However, they lost the battle and Orthodox Ethiopia survived, with the help of Christian friends from Portugal with modern armour and the help of God.
the calendar Ethiopia was using at the time was similar to that of Europe. After forty years when the Gregorian Calendar was decread, the short love between catholicism and the Ethiopian Orthodox Churches had already expired and any advice from the Pope in Rome was not welcomed in Ethiopia, including the new Gregorian Calendar.
Isolated from the rest of the world for more than four centuries, Julian Calendar was so deeply rooted in the culture and dailly life of every Ethiopian, it was very difficult to change to Gregorian Calendar even in the twenty first century Ethiopia.
Thus,Ethiopians will continue to use the Julian Calendar, which makes September the 11th 2007, the begging of the Ethiopian Millennium.
Eventhough some political groups and sypatizers cry wolf, because the present Ethiopian Government want to celebrate the Millennium with the people of Ethiopia, their cry to the world to sabotage the festivity, is unjustified and unethical. Rather, this occasion can help Ethiopia in exposing its true beauty, culture and wealth.
The peace and stability in the country is brought by thousads of years of living together and interratial marriage. Thus, it is safe to visit Ethiopia and enjoy another millennium in Ethiopia.

The Millennium
When the rest of the world was debating on the new calendar in the sixteenth century, Ethiopia was in the middle of its darkest midlle ages, divided in regional kingdoms and land locked by muslim kigdoms, and just recovering from a devastating civil war between Islamic inssurgents lead by Ahmed Ibin Gran of Harar also called Gragn Mohammed, against the Christians of Ethiopia, killing Christians and burning churches, from 1528 to 1543.
With the help of the Portugues military expedition of four hundred soldiers, lead by the grandson of Vasco Degama christanity in Ethiopia was salvaged. However, the devastation and the scar of fifteen horrible years left Ethiopia back hundreds of years and its contacts with rest of the world was reduced to its historic minimum.
Such was the condition in Ethiopia when the world opted to change its calendar ignoring The only Christian nation in Africa at that time in history.
Even the most thorough on-line search engine like Answers.com bonot mention Ethiopian Millennium, in their references of 'millennium'.
The Ethiopian Clendar consists of thirteen months, twelve months of thirty days each and the thirteenth month of five days which becomes six days every leapyear. Like the monthof Febraury in the Gregorian Calendar, becoming twenty nine days every leap year.

Brucellosis in Yifat
The objective of this blog is to give some insight to the health condition of people living in this disease pron region of Ethiopia.
Though Yifat was a name not used presently, to the author it has a practical value. This area is now divided on liguistic settlements for reasons of political stability.
Amharic, Oromifa and Afar speaking people are settled in Yifat, located at the western part of the Great Rift Valley arround 1400 meters above sea level and already
endemic for malaria, HIV, Tuberculosis, Yellow Fever and Bilharziosis is now facing anew threat from the zoonotic disease, Brucellosis.
The disease is common in Yifat from Debre Sina to Ataye, from Komame to Hadeleila in the Afar state and the area around Senbete in the Oromia region.
The fragmentation of Yifat in to linguistic admnistrative areas seems to hamper reporting of cases and responsability. Though the WHO is making research in Central Afar, the increase in the number of patients with very high titres of Brucella AB antibodies is a daily observation in Shewa Robit.
Brucellosis is transmitted by ingetion of unpastuerized milk, and un cooked dairy products; the author, have found out the majority of patients have not taken dairy products for a long time.
In conclusion it is the belief of the author that Yifat is facing an airborne Brucellosis for which the author needs help to prevent the poor people of Yifat.

The Country and People
Geographically located at the horn of Africa,Ethiopia is one of the oldest nations of the world with history dating back to 4,470 years B.C, the lowest place is located in Ethiopia, Danakel is 110 meters below sea level. Ras Dashen is the highest land mark located in the Semien Mountains.
Ethiopia have a population of more than 77 million and is the second most populous country in Africa.
Ethiopia is home to unique wild-life, the Mountain Nyala, the Red Fox, about 27 species of birds and many more.
Lucy, 3.2 million year old human ancestor was Ethiopian.
Coffee, which is consummed every day by billions of people arround the world was introduced by Ethiopia from the region of Kaffa, thus the name coffee was derived as acknowledgement to it's origin.
One of the oldest alphabets in the world is Ge'ez, which is still used by the church.
